Inoperable auto transport
Non-running.
Handled with care.
A vehicle that will not drive needs more than a space on a trailer. We coordinate the equipment, loading plan and handoffs around its actual condition.
Start with the condition
What counts as
inoperable?
“It does not run” is the starting point.
The details shape the move.
A vehicle may need non-running handling if it does not start or drive, cannot steer or brake properly, or needs assistance to get onto the carrier.
Tell us what works as well as what does not. A car that rolls freely presents a different loading problem from one with locked wheels.
- Starts & drivesCan it move under its own power?
- Rolls & steersAre the wheels free and the steering usable?
- Brakes & accessCan it stop, and can the carrier reach it?
Special handling & equipment
The right equipment.
For this vehicle.
Winching, wheel movement and clearance need to be considered together. The loading method should fit the vehicle—not the other way around.
- Controlled loading
- A suitable winch and access plan may be needed when the vehicle cannot drive onto the trailer.
- Wheel movement
- Skates or dollies may be required for restricted wheel movement. Availability must be confirmed.
- Clearance & protection
- Low clearance, modifications and vehicle value can affect the trailer and loading method.
How loading works
Plan first.
Move with purpose.
Dynamic coordinates the shipment. The qualified motor carrier handles the loading, securement and road transport.
- 01
Assess the condition
Share photos, dimensions and a clear account of starting, rolling, steering and braking.
- 02
Confirm the loading method
Review access, equipment and the unloading arrangements before a carrier is assigned.
- 03
Coordinate suitable equipment
Match the handling requirements to available carrier equipment and the route.
- 04
Inspect, load & secure
Record the condition with the driver. The carrier carries out the agreed loading and securement.
- 05
Complete the handoff
Keep the delivery contact ready, confirm unloading access and review the vehicle on arrival.
Classics, projects & barn finds
Not road-ready.
Still worth the care.
The next chapter can start with a move.
A restoration project, an older car that has been sitting, or a newly purchased classic may need a little more planning before it travels.
Share recent photos and explain what is missing or not working. Flat tires, seized wheels, loose panels and limited clearance affect how the carrier can load and secure it.
Please avoid a last-minute surprise. If the condition changes before pickup, let our team know so the loading plan can be reviewed.

Real people.
A considered plan.
We are a broker. Our work is to make the requirements clear, coordinate suitable motor-carrier options and keep the handoffs connected.
How we work- Condition before commitment
- We review the details that can change the loading method, carrier suitability and price.
- Both ends considered
- Pickup access matters. So do delivery access, unloading equipment and the receiving contact.
- A team to reach
- Talk with a real person about the next step, particularly when a vehicle needs more than a standard move.

What is considered an inoperable vehicle?
A vehicle may need inoperable handling if it does not start or drive, cannot roll freely, does not steer or brake properly, or needs assistance to load. Tell us each of those details separately; two non-running vehicles can require very different equipment.
Can you ship a car that does not start?
Many non-starting vehicles can be transported when suitable loading and unloading equipment is available. We review the vehicle condition, access and route before confirming carrier suitability. A car that rolls, steers and brakes usually presents a different situation from one with locked wheels.
Can you move a vehicle that rolls but does not run?
Often, yes, subject to carrier and equipment review. Confirm that the wheels roll freely, the steering works, the brakes function and the vehicle can be placed in neutral. Tell us about flat tires, a dead battery or any access restrictions.
Does inoperable transport cost more?
Additional handling and specialist equipment can increase the cost. There is no single charge that fits every condition. Use Price My Route to describe the vehicle, then review the loading requirements, equipment availability and shipment-specific price with our team.
Can non-running vehicles go in enclosed transport?
Some can, with appropriate enclosed equipment and a confirmed loading plan. Ground clearance, dimensions, wheel movement and the vehicle condition all matter. Enclosed protection does not by itself solve a loading or unloading problem.
Do I need to tell you the exact condition in advance?
Yes. Explain whether it starts, drives, rolls, steers and brakes, even if the problem is intermittent. Share recent photos and disclose missing parts, loose panels, modifications, leaks, flat tires and locked wheels. Accurate details help avoid unsuitable equipment arriving.
What if the wheels are locked or the steering does not work?
Contact our team before booking. These conditions may require dollies, wheel skates or another specialist loading method, and not every carrier can accept them. We need to review both pickup and delivery arrangements before confirming the move.
Is this an emergency towing service?
This page covers planned vehicle transport coordination. If the vehicle is in an unsafe roadside location or needs immediate recovery, arrange appropriate local emergency or towing assistance first. Once it is in a suitable location, we can review the onward shipment.
